"The Artist" (Melhor Filme - Comédia/Musical, Melhor Banda Sonora e Melhor Actor Principal - Comédia/Musical ) e "The Descendants" (Melhor Filme - Drama e Melhor Actor Principal - Drama) triunfaram nas duas principais categorias cinematográficas, e só as vitórias de Martin Scorsese (Melhor Realizador) e Woody Allen (Melhor Argumento) baralharam as contas e diminuíram o impacto do seu óbvio domínio. Meryl Streep (Drama) e Michelle Williams (Comédia/ Musical) venceram os Globos de Ouro de Melhor Actriz, graças às suas brilhantes performances em "The Iron Lady" e ?My Week With Marilyn?. "The Adventures of Tintin" foi considerado o Melhor Filme Animado, e "A Separation" o Melhor Filme Estrangeiro. Nas categorias televisas, "Homeland" (Drama) e "Modern Family" (Comédia) levaram para casa os prémios de Melhor Série. "Downton Abbey" foi considerada a Melhor Minissérie/ Telefilme.
